If I could score this restaurant any higher. I would! lt's been on my bucket list for ages, and last night we eventually had dinner here with my husband's colleagues. What an experience!
From the moment we walked in I was impressed. Every single staff member we passed while walking through the large space greeted us, and the owner personally walked us (and every other group that arrived) to our table and told us about the specials. The food was excellent! I had the marrow bones and toast starter, which was divine.
When ordering the roast duck as my main I wasn't sure which sauce to choose - the orange and mandarin or the cherry and red wine. I asked our waiter for his recommendation, to which he responded that I should try both and decide for myself which is my favourite. He served my duck with both sauces on the side, which was very nice. I still can't choose a favourite as both were delicious! For dessert I had the crepes Suzette - it was amazing!
I can't fault a single thing, we had a lovely evening here.

Simply an amazing restaurant! Wombles is a beautifully decorated restaurant with its colonial era themed style. The ambiance is fantastic with its many cosy areas from dining to lounging around the bar or snuggling by the fire outdoors. you will love this place.
The food is amazingly well prepared and equally delicious! Come hungry as the portions are very healthy! With such a wonderful restaurant you would expect equally great service and wombles didn't disappoint.
The service is top notch. The restaurant was full on the night but our service was always on point! Highly recommended!

Okay. so this isn't my first rodeo with Wombles or with Duncan and Yvette Barker. I grew up eating at Wombles in Zimbabwe as a little girl and it has been a household name in my family .. that is until they moved to South Africa. One of the few consolations about relocating here has to be be this steakhouse! As such, the week that its Hobart centre restaurant opened, I could not resist popping in to check it out.
Colonial, opulent interiors that make me feel like you've stepped into history - tick.
Flawless, friendly service - tick.
Superb Zimbabwean beef - tick.
Excellent wine selections - tick.
Graeme Marshall runs a tight ship and this place works like a well-oiled machine.
This is without a doubt my favourite steakhouse in Johannesburg and I cannot fault them! I feel like the Gods have swung down and blessed me simply by placing their restaurant one block from me.
Fillet on the bone every time!
Please send us an email for comments about your dining experience with us. We gratefully appreciate anything you have to say which may improve the best restaurant service and food in Johannesburg.
